“There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding a pet’s oral health,” said veterinary dental expert Dr. Jan Bellows, incoming president of the American Veterinary Dental College. “Dogs’ mouths are certainly not cleaner than a human’s. Dogs often carry a variety of germs and bacteria in their mouths that stem from buildup of plaque and tartar that can potentially make humans sick through contact with saliva. Many pet owners also believe that any type of chewing is good for their dogs, but tooth fractures are a common occurrence in pets because teeth can only withstand a certain amount of pressure from hard objects before they break. Pets chewing on inflexible items like bones, ice cubes or nylon toys are often in danger of tooth breakage. And while smelly breath in pets is common, pet owners who believe this is normal may be missing the signs of poor oral health or potential dental disease.”

A healthy mouth is essential to the overall wellbeing of pets, but misguided information about pet oral health can affect more than just our pets’ mouths. For proper pet oral health, veterinarians advise daily brushing or giving Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) approved dental treats, and at least annual oral exams by a veterinarian with professional cleanings as recommended.

, ошпаривать не обязательно, режем кусочками размером с ноготь (в дальнейшем, по мере роста кошки, размер кусочков можно увеличивать до, скажем кусков 2х2х2 см). В нее добавляем пол ложечки оливкового масла, немного овощей (размятая варёная цветная капуста, обычная белокочанная капуста, шпинат, салат, трава кошачья, порезанная как &Laquo;лук в салат») либо гречка или рис, в пропорции 3-4 части мяса на 1 часть «наполнителя), туда же - Кисломолочные продукты , допустимые для кошки, разнообразнее. Основа - однопроцентный кефир(«старый», постоявший в открытом виде в холодильнике в течение 3 днейили 1 день в открытом же виде на столе. ВНИМАНИЕ! От свежего, толькочто открытого кефира, кошку будет слабить) и нежирный (до 9%) творог.Но также можно давать несладкий без фруктов йогурт, иногда, раза 2 внеделю - 10%-ную сметану, разбавленную кипятком (получается теплая еда,от нее не отказываются даже послеоперационные животные), в качестве лакомства - можно давать ряженку. Но помнить, что основа - это кефир!

Проще,надежнее и удобнее кормить готовыми кормами – сухими или консервированными. Готовые сухие корма бывают хорошие и плохие. Хорошие корма – это Eagle Pack, Eukanuba, Hills, Iams, Nutro Choice (перечислены НЕ в порядке предпочтения, а просто по алфавиту) и с небольшой натяжкой – Purina ProPlan и Royal Canin. На Пурину уже были нарекания, а Роял Канин уже производят  в России, что не могло не сказаться на качестве корма. Покупать сухие корма на рынках вразвес не стоит – мало ли, сколько у них тот мешок простоял открытым, какие мыши там бегали и т.д. Для кошки желательно, чтобы сухой корм всегда лежал в свободном доступе. Примерная норма корма указывается производителем на пакете и отмеряется мерным стаканчиком, разным для каждого производителя. При кормлении сухим кормом у кошки всегда в пределах досягаемости должна быть свежая вода. В день взрослая кошка на сухом корме должна выпивать 120-150 мл воды. Молоко (кефир) водой не считается. До 8-9 месяцев (а то и до года, если не будет явного лишнего веса) кошку положено кормить кормом для котят. После года – обычным «взрослым» кормом. Переход осуществлять постепенно, в течение 7-10 дней, уменьшая порцию котеночьего корма и увеличивая дозу взрослого.
